Brewing & discovering recipes

Make a few test bottles, write down what you did, and see what changes. The recipes are there to be figured out, so I’m not dumping the answers here.

Brewing is its own system

These are custom cauldron drinks, not the same thing as brewing vanilla potions for the Brewer job. Different drinks may need cooking, distilling, aging, or a combination of those.

Use the brewing help in /faq and the Riddle Brew Shop to get started. The discovery system gives you three starter recipes: Hot Chocolate, Wheat Beer, and Apple Liquor. Other drinks are part of the discovery process.

Cooking a batch

  1. Set up a water-filled cauldron above a suitable heat source. Keep it in a safe, claimed brewing area.
  2. Add the ingredients you want to test. Amounts matter, so keep notes instead of adding random extras each time.
  3. Let the mixture cook. Use the brewing tools and feedback to keep track of cooking time.
  4. Bottle the mixture with glass bottles. Read the result before deciding whether it needs another stage.

Changing ingredients and cooking time at once makes it hard to tell what helped. Change one thing per attempt. A cheap test batch is better than losing all your rare ingredients to a guess.

Distilling

For drinks that need it, put the bottled brew in a brewing stand with glowstone dust in the ingredient slot. Distillation runs in passes. The right number depends on the drink.

Not every recipe wants distillation, and extra passes are not automatically better. Compare the finished bottle against the previous attempt before continuing.

Aging and barrels

Normal Minecraft barrels can age six brews and count as oak. Recognized small custom barrels have nine slots; large ones have 27. Custom barrel wood can matter to the recipe.

A small barrel uses the 2 × 2 × 2 stair build and a sign reading Barrel. Use the in-game brewing equipment guide for the build shape, especially for a large barrel. Wait for the creation confirmation before treating the structure as a working barrel.

One aging year is 20 real minutes. Two years is 40 minutes; five is 100. Those are timing examples, not recipe answers. Remove bottles when you want to stop aging, because leaving them too long can ruin the result.

Quality and discovery

Quality depends on getting the relevant stages close to the recipe: ingredients, cooking, distillation, and sometimes wood and age. The bottle’s stars and ruined-brew hints help you decide what to change.

A valid discovery needs at least quality 1. Hint attempts require at least two ingredients and have a three-minute cooldown. Further clues open after three and six attempts. First discoveries can be announced to the server.

Keep your own recipe notes. Online default recipes may not match RuneHaven’s drinks. Sharing discoveries with other players is part of the fun.

Sealing a finished drink

A sealing table freezes a finished brew so its quality and age stop changing. The server uses a smoker for the sealing table system. Finish cooking, distilling, and aging before sealing: a sealed bottle cannot be refined further.

Store unfinished tests in a normal chest when you don’t want them aging. Don’t leave a valuable finished drink in a working barrel by accident.

Drinking and sobering up

Alcohol can make your character stumble, distort chat, and produce temporary visual puke items. Drinking repeatedly stacks the effect. Use /brew info to check your state and stay away from cliffs, lava, and fights if your movement is getting unreliable.

Maximum alcohol does not kick you or lock you out of joining. Random wakeup locations are disabled. Chat rules still apply even when your character is drunk.
